Canoeing and Kayaking
We are offering you a chance to canoe and kayak the beautiful New River. You will be provided with a canoe or kayak of your choice, life vests, paddles, first aid kits, and a dry bag to keep any essential gear (i.e. digital cameras, phones, etc. ) from getting soaked. The canoes range from 15-17 feet long and come in varying colors. The canoes are very stable and handle well on this stretch of river. The kayaks are 11.5 foot sit-on-top models, that are outfitted with rod holders, paddle holders, and storage areas, to fit everyone’s needs. All boaters will need to sign a waiver which can be downloaded off of our site by clicking here (adobe pdf).
Boaters should come prepared with essentials that help you best enjoy what nature has to offer. We suggest sun screen, snacks/lunch, water or other drinks to stay hydrated, coolers, hats, sunglasses (be sure to have a securing strap), shoes (it is best to bring an old beat up pair of tennis shoes), and fishing gear(make sure to have proper fishing license). It would be best not to wear valuable jewelry, heavy boots, or any irreplaceable items that you don’t want the river to take.
Trips:
- This trip is a relaxing and beautiful 10 mile float from our headquarters in McCoy, Virginia to Pembroke, Virginia. The main advantage of this trip is you will park your car at the Pembroke boat landing and will get a free shuttle ride to the starting point. Once you do reach Pembroke boat landing at the end of your float, you can turn in your gear to a staff member, hop in your car and go. This allows you to take in all of nature’s beauty at your own pace, as well as not dealing with the hassle of waiting for a ride. You can also have dry towels, a change of clothes, or snacks waiting in your car for you! Your river adventure begins with an exciting run through McCoy falls, a Class II rapid. You will be guided through the falls by our experienced staff. Once you have successfully navigated the falls you are on your own to enjoy the beautiful rock formations as you float along a pleasant stretch with Class I riffles. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance for this trip and can be made online or by phone. (540-639-6633).

This option is for those who would like to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty, while fishing one of the best rivers in the country. Boaters most get out at Big Falls Park and are not permitted to go through McCoy Falls. Reservations can only be made within 24 hours and walk ups are very welcome, based on availability.
